How to Fix the iOS 11 ‘IT’ Autocorrect Bug

It’s starting to look like “autocorrect” doesn’t mean what Apple thinks it means because iOS 11.1.2 wants to change “it” into “I.T” and “is” into “I.S” which seems pretty annoying. Luckily, there’s a fix that should take care of the problem until Apple releases a patch.

The I.T problem isn’t hitting everyone, and we couldn’t replicate it on our test devices. That doesn’t, however, mean this isn’t a real problem impacting a lot of iPhone and iPad users.

If you’re in the unlucky I.T bug crowd try resetting your Keyboard Dictionary. Here’s how:

  • Tap Settings

  • Tap General

  • Choose Reset

  • Select Reset Keyboard Dictionary

  • Enter your passcode to start the process

Use the Reset Keyboard Dictionary option to work around the “IT” bug

You’ll need to restart your iPhone or iPad to make sure the reset takes effect. If the problem persists, it’s time to set up your own Text Replacements, just like I detailed when everyone was dealing with “i” turning into other characters.

Just use “it” for the Phrase and Shortcut, and do the same for “is.” You can see all the steps in my earlier Quick Tip, but here’s the short version: Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement to add your “it” and “is” entries.
