watchOS 4: How to Enable Elevated Heart Rate Alerts

watchOS 4 can track your heart rate and alert you if it jumps too high when you aren’t working out. That’ll let you monitor your heart rate if that’s your thing, and it’s easy to set up. Read on to learn how.


To enable Elevated Heart Rate alerts in watchOS 4 do this:



  • Launch the Watch app on your iPhone

  • Tap the My Watch tab

  • Select Heart Rate

  • Tap Elevated Heart Rate

  • Choose the beats per minute you prefer for your alert threshold

Use the Heart Rate setting (left) in the Watch app to set an alert threshold (right)


Your Apple Watch will alert you when your heart rate jumps above the beats per minute threshold you set, but only if you haven’t been active or working out for at least ten minutes. And since this works on all Apple Watch models you don’t have to wait for Apple Watch Series 3 to get elevated heart rate alerts.
